sfu filipino heritage night

where culture meets the court

For SFU Athletics’ Filipino Heritage Night, I was invited to serve as the featured artist in collaboration with Mabuhay House Society. I created the event’s core visual identity—an illustrated piece that celebrates Filipino culture while capturing the momentum, pride, and energy of game night. The artwork became the visual anchor across digital promotions and on limited-run merch, including T-shirts sold at the event, helping shape the tone of an evening rooted in community, visibility, and joy.

This project began with a question: how could one image hold both heritage and movement? I was inspired by the symbols and colours of the Filipino flag and wanted to create something that felt familiar, but not conventional. Elements of Burnaby Mountain subtly ground the scene in place, creating a sense of belonging. The final illustration brings culture, sport, and community into a single, vibrant moment—warm, energetic, and proudly rooted in identity.
