Celebrating the hand-drawn type of Manila’s Streets

Sakay Na is an immersive installation celebrating the vibrant visual language of Manila’s streets. Created in December 2021, the exhibit centered around a handcrafted Jeepney cutout—an enduring icon of Filipino street culture—adorned with expressive, hand-drawn lettering. Surrounding posters highlighted type samples inspired by local signage, from food carts and sari-sari stores to bus and Jeepney placards.

Together, these pieces paid tribute to the colour, rhythm, and ingenuity of everyday Filipino typography, honouring the creativity found in the hustle and hum of Manila’s urban landscape.
