Toilet Culture

CO-DESIGNER
Mashu Higa

Exploring the world of Japanese toilet culture, these editorial spreads feature a collaboration of illustrations between myself and Mashu Higa. Reimagining this article in the context of Breathe Magazine, we wanted to incorporate natural elements through foliage and landscape imagery to evoke a sense of peace and calm that aligns with their ethos of wellness and mindfulness.

We envisioned the “washroom” as a safe space for self-care and a place to reconnect to one’s self emotionally. With this in mind, we meshed our two graphic worlds together by contrasting soft outdoor scenes of nature with charming Noritake-inspired illustrations of people to bring our vision to life.
